The Trump administration is working on a plan to send checks to Americans to help with coronavirus challenges.
According to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin: "We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately... And I mean now, in the next two weeks."
This is part of a gigantic economic stimulus package that could cost the United States government up to $1 Trillion, making it one of the largest federal emergency fiscal packages ever put together.
The US government is also looking to support the airline industry and small businesses that have been affected by the coronavirus. Taxpayers who owe money will be given an additional 90 days to pay.
Senator Mitt Romney has proposed the idea of offering $1,000 in cash payments directly to Americans, and discussed this with Mnuchin on the evening of March 16, 2020.
